Recently we caught up with Winnipeg’s own Royal Canoe, a band who’s burgeoning success is as impressive as their eclectic sound. The melding of synthesizers, guitars, heavy percussion, countless pedals and effects with dashes of hip-hop and other genres creates a sound that energizes the mind and body. To cite off a few of their recent accomplishments, they recently toured with bands such as Alt-J and Bombay Bicycle Club, they were mentioned in The New york Times and Rolling Stone, as well they were nominated for Alternative Album of the Year at this years Juno awards. On top of all this they are recording a new album as well as constantly touring with what can only be described as a mind-blowing live performance. No sound is left untouched when it comes to their live show and nothing is pre-recorded; that is to say they play every part live like they would on the studio version. If you are not familiar with the band go check out their most recent album ‘Today We Are Believers’ and also take a look at this unreal live performance at New York’s Stage 48. If you are in Winnipeg this summer also check them out at this years Winnipeg Folk Festival. It was a beautiful night to cruise around The Exchange and get to know the band. Shout out to all the people that helped out with the locations and to Winnipeg for spawning this amazing group of individuals. Stay tuned for new music from Royal Canoe in the near future and make sure to support your local music scene. Much Love from The Charcoal Collaborative.
